We welcome a young foreign student Arizona Oury from Nancy, France to America. Arizona has spent just a few short hours here thus far but already she has been exposed to American culture, environment and people. Here’s what Arizona has to say in her native tongue:
Hello, I am a young French girl in search of knowledge . I have therefore decided to launch into an adventure and travel away from home. I arrived yesterday from Newark Airport. I was excited to finally hit American soil! The police seemed very happy to welcome me and find out why I came. When I met Karin and John they welcomed me with flowers and balloons, which was very cute. We took the car and drove through New Jersey. I have already noticed that the trucks are 2 times the size and height here than in France. It seemed funny to see yellow school buses, because in France they are white. In France we also don’t have ice cream trucks.Once we reached New York, I saw all of the buildings and bridges. We then arrived in Smithtown! There was so much greenery everywhere, barrier-free gardens, large properties, homes with a completely different architectural style and unlike France, there was a lot of circulation. The weather was beautiful and when I arrived I was able to admire the beautiful river. The trees and plants near the water enhanced the beauty of the place. It was so calm and peaceful. I didn’t even hear a car, it was so quiet. In the afternoon we went to the shopping mall which was outside. In my city, in France (Nancy), all shopping centers are inside because it rains a lot. We also don’t have a store that takes care of just nails! Generally they do facials or waxing. In the evening we ate Chinese food which I learned was very popular here, in France it is not. I took a trip to the supermarket later in the day. I saw there were many kinds of Oreos, more than 10! In France there are only two that are sold, which we have a saying “se battent en duel dans le rayon”, which means “fighting the duel in radius”. I was also so surprised by the size of American pickles, in France they are very small here they are huge.Today I went to Starbucks Coffee for the first time, it does not exist in Nancy. Afterwards, I went to Karins company and met her staff. Everyone seems caring and super nice. I hope I continue to meet people like that. What I noticed in the different places I went too, is that everyone seems welcoming.I am eager to see more.
